Traditional Practice: Kaitiakitanga

The Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand. This means they are the first humans to live in this part of the world.

For the Maori, caring for the environment is a holy obligation known as "kaitiakitanga." In this duty, they honor and respect the land, and take action to be Global Guardians!

Much of kaitiakitanga derives from the Maori belief in the connection between all living things. This gives the preservation of ecosystems a great importance. Furthering this is the fact that many earthly things are treated as divine beings. We can all learn something from the way the Maori people look at the world, caring for the environment with their all.
